Coming in 1.16.12
KorTerra Field can save a second copy of every photo you take with the in-app camera directly to your device's photo library. If a photo is ever lost from the ticket before it uploads, the backup copy is still on your phone.
Photo backup is turned on per organization. If you do not see backup indicators on your attachments, your organization does not have it turned on. If you would like this functionality enabled, contact your KorTerra account representative, or reach us at support@korterra.com.
What gets backed up
Photo backup covers photos you take with the in-app camera on iOS and Android. It does not cover photos and files you attach from your device, and it is not available on Windows.
The copy is saved the moment you take the photo, before the watermark is applied. The copy in your photo library is the original image, with no date, time, or location stamp printed on it. It does carry the location where you took it. The watermarked version is the one that uploads to the ticket.
Backup works offline. You do not need a connection for the copy to be saved.
Where copies are saved
Copies are grouped by ticket so you can find a job's photos together.
Android
Copies are saved to a KorTerra Field album in your photo library. Each file name starts with the ticket number, so searching the album for a ticket brings up that job's photos.
Android does not prompt you for permission to save backup copies. On Android 9 and older, KorTerra Field uses the storage permission you already granted the app.
iOS
The first time a photo is backed up, iOS asks you to allow KorTerra Field to add to Photos. Your photo is captured and attached to the ticket either way.
With Full Access, copies are filed into a KorTerra Field folder, with an album per ticket inside it.
With Add Photos Only access, copies are saved to your camera roll instead. The photos are still backed up, they are just not sorted into albums.
Find a photo in your library
You can also match a photo to its ticket yourself. Backup copies are named with the ticket number and the attachment's file name.
The Attachments pane shortens long file names, so use Copy file name next to the name, then paste it into the search in your photo library.
Keep the file name if you send a photo to KorTerra support. It is what we use to find the photo's ticket.
Check whether a photo backed up
On the Attachments pane, each in-app camera photo shows a backup indicator next to its sync status. The two are separate. A photo can be synced to the ticket and still have failed to back up to your device, or the other way around.
On each attachment card, you will see a device icon with a check, or an X.
The check mark indicates the photo has successfully been saved to the device.
The X indicates the photo has not been successfully backed up.
A photo that is still backing up shows no indicator yet. One appears once the backup finishes or fails.
If a photo does not back up
Backups run in the background and never interrupt you while you are shooting. Keep taking photos as you normally would.
When you close the camera, KorTerra Field tells you if any photos from that session did not save to your device.
Select Review and save them manually and KorTerra Field takes you to the Attachments pane with the Backup Failed filter already applied, so you see exactly which photos are affected. You can also dismiss the message with the X. The photos are not lost. They are still attached to the ticket and still upload on the normal schedule.
To save one of those photos yourself, select the Share icon on the attachment and save it to your photo library from there.
If you declined access to Photos on iOS
If you told iOS not to let KorTerra Field add to Photos, nothing can be backed up, so you get a different message when you close the camera:
Photo backup is off. Grant Photos access in Settings.
Select Open Settings to turn access back on. Backups resume on their own from the next photo you take. Capturing and attaching photos keep working normally the whole time.
Photos you took while access was off are not backed up afterward. Find them with the Backup Failed filter and use Share to save any you need on your device.
Important
KorTerra Field never deletes a backup copy. Removing them is up to you or your device policy.
Backup does not replace attaching the photo to the ticket. The ticket attachment is still the record of your work.
